A Cherry of a Day

These were all taken a couple of Saturday's ago at my aunt/Godmother's house. She invited us to come and pick her ripe cherries before the birds got all of them, and, despite a lengthy to-do list, I made a deliberate choice to go. It was a decision I've been very pleased with and proud of ever since.

And not only that, but we had a great day doing something fun and special together, I got to spend an afternoon on the ridge, and now we've got several bags of cherries in our freezer!

I was also very proud of the dessert I made with the fresh cherries. I began with Pioneer Woman's peach crisp recipe, cut the sugar in half, substituted sucanat for the white sugar, added rolled oats, used organic tapioca and arrowroot powder for thickening the juices, and I believe I used whole wheat flour instead of white. And for all of those healthy modifications, everybody loved it! Finally, Success!
