Our Beloved Dead

Is it bad to not go visit the cemetary?

I feel like I should go, but I don't like to. So I avoid it.

But now I have a guilty conscience.

Please help.

*Inside information: I am always mindful during Mass and while in church of visiting my mother (and other deceased relatives) as a member of the communion of saints and feel that this is the only really effective way of being with her/them. Does that make it okay that I avoid cemetary visits?

  1. The act of going to a cemetery often serves as visual reminder to pray for our love ones and others that MAY be in purgatory. Some don't need this visual reminder....

  2. I don't see this as bad. I don't visit the cemetery although I might if a headstone needed maintaining. All of the memories of a person I loved are in my heart, not in a garden. Everyone remembers differently, everyone grieves differently, everyone prays differently. I'd say you do what suits you best. :)
