Although I don't have the pictures to prove it, my boys and I made chocolate chip cookies together this forenoon. I decided to try an experiment and do things a little bit differently this time, mainly because today I felt way too pregnant and body-tired to stand at the counter and walk around the kitchen for an hour +. So with some exceptions, I had my4-year old going all around the kitchen, in and out of cupboards, gathering the ingredients so I could sit at the table and prepare things for the boys to pour and mix in. I think that he must have thought this was incredible (especially because there were a couple occasions of minor counter climbing) because he made a very enthusiastic comment about loving "making cookies with my new mom!" The new mom hasn't yet decided exactly how this comment is to be taken. :]

Today is my grandparents' 61st wedding anniversary! Since these are my mother's parents, I've always been very close with them and have always thought of them and their marriage as exemplary (obviously!).
In fact, the family picture at the top of this blog was taken last year in September when our diocese had a special Mass and reception for all milestone anniversaries. My grandparents were invited because last year they celebrated their 60th and they asked us to join them as their guests. It was a very special and memorable occasion.

We now have a van. We completed the paperwork Friday evening and have been driving it since then. The boys love it, and I like it too. With the exception of power doors, it doesn't have all of the other gadgets and extras that the higher and more expensive ones do. This has been an issue and a source of whining and complaining from Lance, but I told him he needs to brush up on detachment a little bit. While, in my opinion, those things are nice, they are hardly necessary and they're just extra things that have the potential to break eventually anyway. It's a nice van for a really good price and we should just be greatful.
Plus, the timing worked out pretty well. Lance was getting uptight that the baby would be born and be ready to go home from the hospital before we'd actually be able to get it, but I told him that I felt confident that God would work it out and that His timing would be great and we shouldn't worry about stuff like that. And look, I'm still pregnant. :]~

One more good thing about still being pregnant (that I'm attributing to God's plan) is that today I remembered that I had a couple bills in my planner that still needed to be mailed and some library books of the boys' that needed to be returned. If I had gone into the hospital over the last few days, that stuff would definitely have been forgotten about and wound up being seriously late.
Finally, because I'm still pregnant today on the 18th, I won the baby game that Lance and I were playing. He chose the 15th and I chose the 18th and we decided on Price is Right rules (closest to without going over). Now I win no matter when the baby's born!

I woke up with pink eye in my left eye this morning. Ugh! At least, though, I had some medicine in the cupboard from when the boys had it a few months ago and after a quick call to the pharmacy to make sure it was okay, I was able to get started treating it asap. (I can't stand pink eye.)

Assuredly this will give me away as the slacker that I am, but, although we still haven't gotten any vegetables planted (or even a decent spot cleared!), I finally got a bunch of other stuff in the ground this weekend. My wonderful aunt brought me some dug lilly-of-the-valleys, for Mother's Day I got a beautiful climbing rose bush and a couple packs of petunias, and I also had a couple of dahlia bulbs from last year down in the basement that still needed planting. I am really worried that the dahlias were way too dried up to actually still be alive and be able to grow this year, but on Saturday I was able to get everything planted. (This was another thing that I think God gave me time to get done by having me still be pregnant. ....See how good I'm getting at coming up with positives about "still being pregnant?")
This due date is 5/27, but my boys born 9 and 15 days early. That's why it's a little tricky not playing mind games with myself and trying to lose track of the days lately! Hence, all of the looking on the bright side! :)
......
A funny note about petunias: My mother used to plant her whiskey barrels completely full of petunias. Every year. I can't tell you how many hours I was swindled into spending plucking spent blossoms off those plants and henceforth vowed to never plant or nurture those tedious things.

So I realize that this may as well have been the Monday edition of 7 Quick Takes Friday, but I felt the need to do a little catching up!

If you think you're a slacker because you didn't get your vegetables in when you're 9 months pregnant, I would say you must be wonder-woman!!! I can hardly even buy vegetables when I'm pregnant, let alone plant them. :) Yeah - can't wait to hear about the baby!!!
ReplyDeleteI did a QTF yesterday of my own. ;)
ReplyDeleteANY DAY NOW!!! I am so excited for your news, too.
