Yarn Along!

Two current books and two current knitting projects.

The blue is the beginning of my first-ever mitten that I started once I finished this green hat (the first time) for Wideawake's birthday. Normally, I would not be working on two projects at once, but after he tried the hat on I knew I had to redo it and make it smaller. It's my first hat, so I made it according to his head measurement, not realizing that it should actually be smaller so that it's snug on his head. I'm definitely a beginner and have had the opportunity to learn a lot through trial and error on this project!

Now, though, I have to hurry up and get through that first mitten so that I can have the dpn's back to finish the hat and give it back to my anxious boy (who has since placed his request for matching mittens)!

Go visit Ginny for all of the other wonderful projects and book recommendations!

  1. The mittens look wonderful, and warm! I just made my first hat a few weeks ago too, and I made it a bit too small, but my son still loves it!

  2. I haven't tried mittens yet, but want to! I just realized that I don't think I emailed you back about that hat-sorry!! It's been quite a week. Call me if you need to! Although not tonight-our phone is down!

  3. I made mittens and fingerless gloves or wristlets for my crew last Xmas and they were a huge hit :) The colors are lovely too.

  4. I love your yarn choices! I think mittens are too daunting for me to try-I admire you for doing those. If you find any good ideas in your books you'll have to share :)

  5. I'm just about to start decreasing the top of the hand now! The gusset (I've now learned is the name of the hole you leave for the thumb which is added on at the end) was a little crazy to do for the first time: just one of those things you do and question the sanity of, double and triple check the instructions, shrug, and then go with it. But other than that it's been going really well and not at all difficult. I can't wait to show you all the finished product! Thanks, everybody!

  6. Hi! I'm here from Aubrey's blog and so excited to see your knitting projects! I've done a few things in the past, but am starting again (slowly!) after many years :) Where did you get the pattern for the hat? It looks so cosy! :)

  7. Hi Laura, thanks for stopping over!

The hat pattern is a hat formula that I learned about here: http://www.gsheller.com/2010/01/how-to-knit-hatthe-way-i-was-taught.html

Make sure you share your progress with everybody on Wednesday Yarn Along hosted by Ginny at Small Things (gsheller.com)!
