For today, Thursday, January 28
Outside my window It's a very crisp, clear, cold night. Right now it's about 1 degree.
I am thinking about the bookclub meeting that I was able to attend tonight and also about how enjoyable it is for me to read my favorite blogs.
I am thankful for the day that my boys and I had together today. After having a little later than normal breakfast, doing our lessons, and doing a few tasks around the house we were able to go and visit my grandparents. I took along a Subway lunch for all of us (my favorite) and also the essentials for making this pound cake recipe. It was fun and enjoyable for everyone, and as an added bonus, my brother stopped in for a visit while we were there so I got to see him today, too.
I am wearing a king-sized microfleece blanket on 3/4 of my body, and underneath, a long-sleeved t-shirt, a wool sweater, jeans, and warm socks. Yup, it's winter.
I am remembering lots of things lately. It seems like I'm always trying to remember something and/or always forgetting to write stuff down. I'm a list-maker by nature and by necessity. I'm hoping that when the baby's done nursing some of my brain power will return.
I am going to tell you something very random and weird. I always put the opening in the cereal bag on the side of the box with the nutrition facts. Then I put that side of the box in the cupboard first so 1-it isn't showing and 2-so when you grab it's in the right position to pour.
I am reading not really anything right now. Our bookclub book this month was Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz, but I only got to about page 25 because I got it late in the month and then didn't feel like super dedicating myself to getting it finished in time. It's still up in the air as to whether I'll read the whole thing at some point. Everyone else really seemed to like it, though. I'm waiting on JPII's Invitation to Joy book from the library and I've also been in a flurry of knitting books lately.
I am hoping that we continue to stay well through winter.
On my mind I've been thinking quite a bit lately about the baby's departure from our bed. He's still sleeping with us, but with the other two boys I gave them the boot at 12 mos and 9-10 mos, respectively. Cuddlebug's eight months now, so it's been entering my mind that, following precedent, his days would be numbered. But, I'm feeling a little bit reluctant to go through with the kicking-him-out-him-crying-it-out ordeal. Then, on the other hand I think about getting to sleep through the night and giving my shoulders a chance to (hopefully) start getting back to normal. (Sleeping with the baby always makes them get messed up and hurt for some reason.)
From the learning rooms Little Wideawake still requests lessons on all of the weekend days and our one scheduled day off during the week. He's still doing super well with all of the lessons; so far we're up to letter M and number 7. Also, he completed the first reading book in the series and this week we started on the second one!
Noticing that my little baby boy is growing too too fast.
Pondering these words I'm forever yoooooours, faithfully. Steve Perry is one of my all-time favorite singers. Is that super dorky?
From the kitchen This week we had a nice pork roast and so we've also had leftovers. I'm hoping there'll be enough left for making shredded bbq sandwiches, but there's a chance we'll go out for fish tomorrow night. Also, baby's been slowly coming around to the food. If I puree the stuff and make it quite loose he seems to handle it better. It's been carrots lately, and tonight at bookclub he went crazy for the chamomile tea in my cup (and a few sips of honeybush tea at home the other day, too).
Around the house I've been keeping up pretty well with laundry, etc, but nothing too heavy-duty cleaningwise. I'm starting to make plans for and look forward to spring cleaning. Also, we went through the toys last weekend and this weekend will be some storage tubs in the basement. The boys have been enthusiastic about learning to help with the laundry washing, folding, and putting away. I've been using the dishwasher pretty regularly now. I've been finding that saving that time after each meal during the day really makes a big difference. (And the boys have been enthusiastic about helping there, too, with loading and unloading.)
One of my favorite things is when my little baby hugs me, puts his head down on my shoulder and then coos a sweet, "mmmmmmmm" all the while.
From my picture journal
This is from the foggy weather we had a week or two ago. I loved photographing it but then to look at the result just makes me unsettled and conflicted and angry because I think the quality of this picture is terrible and doesn't do anything for capturing the beauty and portraying any worth-while photography at all. In order to be financially responsible, we've been delaying in investing in the camera that we'd love to have (only to have the price keep going up all the while). So that's that.
