She was a daaaaaay tripper!

Last week was Lance's birthday so he took a couple days off from work to spend with us and enjoy a long weekend. It was great for everyone. On one of the days we decided to take a day trip a couple of hours away and visit a grouping of state parks that we've never been to. It was a really fun day.

This was the first park we went to.

(Have I mentioned how much I LOVE my Maya Wrap? I love it. I wish I would have had one when the other two were babies!)
This was the second park. It was really neat because the whole park is on an island and all of the campsites are on the water. Some even had water on two sides! We didn't get out and play here, though, because the children were all napping.

This is the last place we went to. Unfortunately, the building had just closed a few minutes before we got there so we missed seeing all of the neat fossils and other information they had there, but it was still a very good stop. The boys had woken up by the time we got there and were ready for a chance to get out and stretch, snack, run, and play. The National Ice Age Trail also goes through here, so we took advantage of that and did a little hiking before we hit the road again.

This was just some of the scenery from up there. It was such a gorgeous place.
We had such a great time, we're planning another day trip like this for Monday (Labor Day). I'm really bummed that we haven't actually camped yet this summer, though. The plan was to wait until the end of summer so the baby could be a little bit older, but lately it's been so cool at night here (close to freezing in some areas) that I'm a little worried that it might not be a good decision to do it yet this year. Any thoughts?

  1. Last summer we took our family camping up in the Minoqua area in early August. The evenings were cold...one night it got down to 34 degrees! This was when Luke was just about 6 months old and we had him bundled up like an eskimo and the rest of the family made a family bed out of our sleeping bags to keep warm. (We were in a tent). The days were mostly fine and we had fun, but I would suggest not camping overnight at this time of the year unless you have a pop-up camper or trailer or vehicle to keep warm in.

I think you had the right idea to travel to different state parks for the day, when you can check the weather beforehand with a bit more accuracy and plan accordingly.

If you do decide to spend the night camping, I have a down sleeping bag for an infant that we used for Luke and it worked great. You are welcome to borrow it - I can mail it or something. I'll send you a photo of little Luke in the sleeping bag all bundled up on the 34 degree night - it's so cute!
